Smartlead vs Lemlist

Smartlead and Lemlist both send cold email sequences, but they were designed for different buyers. Smartlead grew up serving lead generation agencies that manage many mailboxes across many clients. Lemlist grew up serving sales reps who want every message to feel hand-written, across email and LinkedIn.
If you are choosing between them, the question is whether you are optimizing for infrastructure and scale, or for personalization and channel mix.
At a glance
- Smartlead is best for agencies and operators managing large mailbox fleets. Plans start at $39 a month, with unlimited email accounts on every tier.
- Lemlist is best for sales teams running multichannel, highly personalized sequences. Plans list at $69 per user a month for email and $109 per user a month for multichannel.
Where Smartlead is strong
Smartlead prices by leads and sends instead of seats. The Base plan covers 2,000 contacts and 6,000 emails a month for $39. Pro covers 30,000 contacts and 90,000 emails for $94. The Unlimited Smart and Unlimited Prime plans, at $174 and $379 a month, raise the ceiling to 150,000 and 500,000 monthly sends.
The agency features are the real draw. Client workspaces with white-label access are available as a $29 a month add-on per client from the Pro plan up, so each client can log in to a branded portal and see only their own campaigns. Smartlead also sells infrastructure directly: SmartServers provide a dedicated IP at $39 per server a month, and SmartDelivery adds inbox placement testing from $49 a month.
A master inbox, automatic mailbox rotation and a full API round out a product aimed at people who think of outbound as a system to be engineered.
Where Lemlist is strong
Lemlist focuses on what the recipient sees. Its sequences blend email with LinkedIn actions, calls and SMS, and its personalization tools include custom images and AI-generated lines that reference the prospect's company or role.
Lemwarm, the built-in warm-up and deliverability feature, is included on both plans. So is access to a contact database of more than 650 million leads, which lets a small team find prospects and contact them from the same screen.
Key differences
- Who pays for what. Smartlead scales with volume and client count. Lemlist scales with the number of users.
- Agency tooling. Smartlead has white-label client workspaces. Lemlist is oriented to in-house teams.
- Channels. Lemlist's Multichannel plan includes LinkedIn, SMS and calling. Smartlead is primarily an email engine.
- Infrastructure. Smartlead sells dedicated sending servers and placement testing as add-ons. Lemlist bundles warm-up and a deliverability dashboard.
- Mailboxes. Smartlead allows unlimited accounts. Lemlist's Multichannel plan sets five senders per user.
Deliverability notes
Smartlead gives you more levers: dedicated IPs, placement tests against real seed inboxes, and granular sending rules per mailbox. Those levers help experienced operators and can hurt inexperienced ones. A dedicated IP, for example, needs steady volume and its own warm-up, and is not automatically better than a good shared pool.
Lemlist makes more decisions for you. For a team without a deliverability specialist, fewer options can mean fewer mistakes.
In both cases the foundations are the same. Use separate outreach domains, authenticate them with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, keep per-mailbox volume conservative, and watch reply and bounce rates closely.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Smartlead if you run campaigns for multiple clients, need white-label reporting, or want direct control over sending infrastructure.
- Choose Lemlist if you are an in-house sales team that values personalization and LinkedIn steps over raw sending capacity.
