Instantly vs Woodpecker

Instantly and Woodpecker represent two generations of cold email software. Woodpecker has been sending careful, low-volume sequences for more than a decade. Instantly arrived later and popularized the model of unlimited mailboxes with a large warm-up network. Both have borrowed from each other since, but their instincts remain different.
At a glance
- Instantly is best for teams that want maximum sending capacity for a flat price. Outreach plans start at $47 a month with unlimited email accounts and warm-up.
- Woodpecker is best for teams that want strong safeguards and pay-for-what-you-use pricing. The price is built from the number of prospects you contact each month.
Where Instantly is strong
Instantly's plans are simple to reason about. Growth covers 1,000 contacts and 5,000 emails a month. Hypergrowth, at $97 a month, covers 25,000 contacts and 125,000 emails. Light Speed, at $358 a month, covers 100,000 contacts and 500,000 emails. None of them charge per mailbox or per user.
The product is built for inbox rotation across many accounts, with a unified inbox for replies, campaign analytics and AI-assisted copywriting. A lead database and CRM are available as separate or bundled purchases.
Where Woodpecker is strong
Woodpecker's base price depends on how many prospects you contact in a month. Unlimited email accounts, unlimited team members and unlimited email verification are included. Verification covers catch-all addresses, which many tools charge extra for or skip.
Safety features are central to the product. Adaptive sending adjusts pace to protect the mailbox. Bounce protection stops a campaign when bounces pass a threshold. Extras are priced individually: LinkedIn accounts at $29 a month each, additional warm-up slots at $5 per mailbox, and an Agency Panel at $27 per active client.
The trial lasts 14 days or 100 cold emails, with no credit card required.
Key differences
- Pricing unit. Instantly sells tiers of contacts and emails. Woodpecker charges for contacted prospects and adds extras a la carte.
- Warm-up. Instantly includes unlimited warm-up on all plans. Woodpecker includes a small number of warm-ups and sells more.
- Verification. Woodpecker includes unlimited verification. Instantly handles verification as a credit-based feature.
- Scale. Instantly is designed for hundreds of mailboxes. Woodpecker supports unlimited accounts, but its design favors steadier volumes.
- Channels. Both are email-first. Woodpecker offers LinkedIn as an add-on.
Deliverability notes
The practical difference is where each tool sets its defaults. Woodpecker assumes you want protection and makes you opt out of it. Instantly assumes you know what you are doing and gives you room.
Experienced operators often prefer Instantly because nothing gets in their way. Teams new to cold email often do better with Woodpecker, because built-in verification and bounce limits prevent the most common early mistakes: mailing unverified lists and ignoring a rising bounce rate.
Warm-up networks help a new mailbox look established, but they are not a substitute for relevance. Mailbox providers increasingly weigh how real recipients respond. Good targeting matters more than any warm-up score.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Instantly if you have deliverability experience, manage many mailboxes and want the lowest cost per email sent.
- Choose Woodpecker if you prefer built-in guardrails, share the account across a team, or want to pay in proportion to how many prospects you actually contact.
Pricing was checked on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026 and changes often. Confirm current rates before you buy.
